Nosedive Wrap-Up
My nine-episode podcast-style livestream on YouTube ends its run.
I am fairly certain that there are several subscribers and followers of this Substack that are neither aware of my Instagram account jjcolbourne nor my Youtube channel. If you haven’t followed the former and subscribed to the latter, it would warm the cockles of my heart if you did. As far as my Youtube channel, which I started in 2022, I have long broadcasted livestreams, with the first series under the moniker of Effluvium, another named Notes and Accords, several one-offs, and then the Nosedive series, on which I hosted “monthly in-depth discussions with fascinating people in the fragrance realm’—the tagline I used in the intro/outro of these livestreams.
For its inaugural episode, broadcast Oct 30, 2025, my guests were Jake Levy and Matt Belanger of Stéle. For many of you, these two need no introduction, but for those who do, these two founded the most impeccably-curated and forward-thinking retailer of fragrances. I admire the vision and their mission. Check out our chat here:
The second episode, broadcast Dec 4, 2025, features guest Mark Sage of Clandestine Laboratories. This brilliant NYC-based indie perfumer has a no-nonsense attitude and a refreshing perspective on perfume:
The third episode, broadcast Jan 8, 2026, is a riveting discussion with writer, scent consultant and friend Tracy Wan, for whom many of you know from her TikTok Invisible Stories. Intelligent and thoughtful, Tracy has some of the most compelling content and writing out there, and she and I had a spirited chat filled with critique, reflection, and humor:
The fourth episode, Feb 5, 2026, is a fun-filled and informative exploration of 80s and early 90s scents with Roman of 8tracktape. 26-year-old Roman is a such a joy to listen to as he shares his enthusiasm and curiosity for a bygone time. He is not only quite fond of fragrance, his TikTok and Instagram has him exploring all manner of memorabilia from way back when. Here, we both bust out the oldies but goodies and gush over them:
On the fifth episode, broadcast March 5, 2026, I was thrilled to host my friend Steven Gontarski, who many of you may be know from Luckyscent, their podcast It’s Just Perfume and his absolutely fantastic Youtube channel. We have a conversation about numerous topics, including our shared love of the old PBS series Alive from Off Center, his musicianship, our shared music tastes, and of course, plenty of talk on perfume!
The sixth episode, broadcast Apr 9, 2026, is with perfumer, reviewer and essayist Alexandre Helwani, a dear friend and an astounding mind and poet in the fragrance realm. He and I discuss his creation Pardes for Iconofly:
The seventh episode, broadcast May 7, 2026, brings Jana Menard, owner of Lake Tahoe-based physical and online fragrance retail treasure Fragrance Vault. She and I talk about perfume collections, particularly VINTAGES! My word, does she have an impressive collection of gems and her knowledge is formidable as well. Jana is an absolute delight:
The eight episode, Jun 4, 2026, showcases two guests: perfumer and good pal Chester Gibs and founder of fragrance house NewNiche, Sebastian Graf. We discuss Graf’s mission behind NewNiche and its first release, composed by Chester, Before the World Moved Again:
For the ninth and final episode, broadcast July 9, 2026, I invited content creator and fragrance enthusiast Gregory Foster. Please do check out his Instagram—he is the real deal. His content is done with integrity and intention, with just the right amount of vulnerability that makes him far more relatable than many in the game. He and I cover the subject of authenticity in content creation, Imposter Syndrome, exposing vulnerability, and more. We also chat about fragrances that we are currently smitten with:
I decided that after the Nosedive series it would be time to discontinue livestreams on Youtube. I will resume making recorded videos and hope to maintain a monthly output. In the meantime, as my platform here on Substack continues to grow, I may begin livestreams here or launch a recorded podcast. Stay tuned for more!
